1. meanwhile = in the mean time在此期間、在同時
They've arranged to have another meeting in two weeks, and meanwhile the problem is getting worse and worse!
他們已經安排了兩周內的另一個會議，而在此時，這個問題越變越糟。
The computers should be working again soon. Meanwhile, could everyone get on with some paperwork or something?
電腦應該很快就好了，在此時，大家可以先著手進行紙本作業嗎?
* meanwhile可放句首，記得要加逗號唷!
2. presently 現在、目前
Of 200 boats, only 20 are presently operational.

* presently習慣放於be動詞或助動詞之後。
3. at last = finally終於，最終
I've finished my essay at last! = I finally finished my essay!
我終於把論文寫完了！
4. immediately = as soon as 一…就
I'll call you immediately I hear anything.
我一有甚麼消息就給你打電話。
* immediately也有馬上的意思，在這裡分享的是另一個用法唷
5. previously 先前地、以前地
She was previously employed as a tour guide.
她以前受聘當導遊。
I had posted the card two months previously.
我兩個月以前就把那張卡片寄出去了。
6. thereafter = after that 之後，以後
He left the priesthood in 1970 and settled in the Washington area shortly thereafter (= soon after that).
他在1970年結束牧師生涯，不久以後在華盛頓地區定居。
7. in the past 在過去
In the past, this sort of work was all done by hand.
在過去，這種工作完全是人工完成的。
8. subsequently 接著、隨之
In 1982 he was arrested and subsequently convicted on drug trafficking charges.
他在1982年被捕，隨之被定運送毒品之罪。
9. eventually 最終
Although she had been ill for a long time, it still came as a shock when she eventually died.
雖然她已病了好長時間，但當她最後去世時，我們仍然感到非常震驚。
* 文法補充
Eventually 和 finally的不同:
用finally 表達清單中的最後一個項目、口述的最後一點或是表達某事「終於達成」(有開心或鬆一口氣之意味)
Finally, we have to buy some milk.
The serial killer finally got arrested!
用eventually表示in the end(在最終)，通常是用於長時間、下很多功夫或是遇到很多問題的事件
Eventually, we had to stay in the airport waiting for the typhoon to leave.
He eventually succeeded after 10 years of trying.
